Falun – single-family house

Villa Westholm, Private /EFEM

Villa Westholm is a passive house fitted into a sensitive cultural heritage area outside Falun. It is a wooden house built by skilled local craftsmen. The house has mechanical ventilation with heat recovery, and second-generation solar panels that heat half the hot water. A wood-burning stove has been installed for cosiness and supplementary heating.

Lund Institute of Technology has calculated a heat load of 13 W/m2 (northern zone). Energy purchases in the first year totalled 6000 kWh electricity (including domestic electricity and hot water) and 2 m3 of firewood. The heating battery in the heat exchanger was not used at all in the first year.

The residents are very pleased with the indoor climate, in both summer and winter. Two people live in the 140 m2 house.

The house was given Falu Municipality's environmental award in 2007.
