The building is constructed using the CTEN building system. This is a tried and tested building concept for energy-efficient and sound constructions and housing. The base and external walls concist of high-quality expanded polystyrene foam that provides effective insulation and acts as the formwork for concrete. Reinforced concrete columns and beams provide the structural framework.

Steel reinforcing beams are located at door and window openings. The foundation is concrete slab on ground. The roof is constructed of timber beams and is insulated to a high standard. The installed solar panels contribute approx. 2000 kWh/year of the hot water requirement.
