Alingsås - nursery school

New nursery school featuring passive house technology

- creates a sound environment and reduces operating costs

In the spring of 2008 the construction of a new type of nursery school at Stadsskogen was completed. The nursery school was built using passive house technology, which will substantially reduce its operating costs. The nursery school is the first of its kind in Sweden, and around a hundred children moved into the school in June 2008.

The passive house philosophy is based on a dry, draught-free house with little heat loss through walls, windows and ventilation. This makes it more expensive than traditional construction methods, but this is offset by savings through reduced operating costs which, in the long term, benefits the environment.

"Taken as a whole, the overall economy, calculated over the whole life of the building, is comparable with that of a regular nursery school. But from an environmental point of view, it is fully in line with the national targets, i.e. to make buildings as energy-efficient as possible with the aim of saving energy", says Peter Jakobson the director of FABS, the owner.

The total floor area of the building is 937 sq.m.
